Best for writers who want reader-focused feedback before diving into revision.

What is beta reading? Put simply, it’s a person who reads your story near the end stages of editing before it is published. They give you feedback on their experience as a reader. They’ll typically answer your predetermined questions regarding their general feelings about the book, and anything they do or don’t like. It’s a great way to get an idea on public reception.

Why do I charge for this service when you can get it for free? You can find free beta readers pretty much anywhere nowadays. But, the free service can come with a hidden cost. While most free readers have their hearts in the right place, they can be unreliable or inadvertently send you down the wrong path. This could cost you time, or further editing fees to undo any well meaning suggestions they may have offered.

Rest assured not all free beta readers are inexperienced or unreliable. You will likely come across at least a few trusted readers on your journey to publication. But until then, consider adding a professional to your arsenal.

What You’ll Get

  • A genuine reader’s perspective – my opinion as a reader *not an editor*, focusing on your characters, plot, world, style, and overall reading experience.
  • A reader summary report addressing key reader-focused questions, including:
    • Readability – Was the story a page-turner? Where did it flow well, and where did it slow down or drag?
    • The Good, the bad, and the ugly – What did I love? What did I dislike? What pulled me out of the story?
    • Questions or Confusions – What moments felt unclear, confusing, or raised unanswered questions?
    • Manuscript readiness – I’ll let you know how close I think you are to a completed manuscript and what additional services (copy edits, proofreading, etc) I think you might benefit from.
  • One follow up email to discuss the report – I’ll answer clarifying questions you might have regarding my report.

*Report length is typically 3-5 pages but can be more or less depending on length of manuscript and the breadth and depth of all areas of concern that need to be addressed.

** Quick turn-around requests are available for an additional fee. Please mention this in your inquiry and I’ll be happy to provide a quote

No obligation. Tell me about your manuscript and what kind of feedback you’re looking for. I’ll let you know how I can help.

Plot Outline Assessment

$0.01 per word (e.g. $100 for 10,000 words).

Best for writers who want to fix story problems early and move forward with confidence.

Do you have a story idea that’s taken root in your mind and won’t let you go? If you have a plot outline or story plan but aren’t sure it fully works yet, this service is for you.

I’ll review your outline with a focus on structure, pacing, and progression. I’ll look at your major plot points, whether the story builds momentum, and where things may be dragging, rushing, or missing entirely. I’ll also flag areas that might require more clarification or elaboration.

What You’ll Get

  • A thorough report providing key insights into the following:
    • A thoughtful evaluation of your plot outline focused on overall structure and story flow.
    • Written feedback highlighting what’s working, where the outline may be falling short, and what could be strengthened before moving forward.
    • Clear, actionable guidance to help you revise your outline with confidence.
  • One follow-up email to answer any clarifying questions about the feedback.

*Report length is typically 1-2 pages but can be more or less depending on length of plot outline and the breadth and depth of all areas of concern that need to be addressed.

No obligation. Share a few details about your outline and goals. I’ll take a look and I’ll let you know how I can help.

Best for writers who want direction and insight before diving into major revisions.

Unsure of where to go after completing your first draft? Or maybe you’ve suffered through countless revisions only to end up in the same place as before…scratching your head while staring blankly at your story board wondering what your original story was about.

If you’ve completed a draft and want focused, big-picture feedback, a manuscript critique gives you clarity on where your story stands.

I’ll read your manuscript and provide a detailed editorial letter covering plot, character arcs, pacing, and overall cohesion. Rather than line edits, this service focuses on identifying patterns, strengths, and key areas that need attention so you know exactly what to tackle in revision.

You’ll walk away with a clear understanding of what’s holding your story back and a roadmap for how to improve it.

What You’ll Get

  • A comprehensive editorial report offering big-picture feedback on your manuscript as a whole (no copy or line edits).
  • Focus will be on:
    • Clear insight into what’s working in your story, what may be holding it back, and what could be strengthened moving forward.
    • Thoughtful guidance on major story elements, including structure, characters, and overall cohesion.
    • Consideration of any specific big-picture concerns you’d like feedback on.
  • A personalized list of recommended resources, if helpful, to support your next steps as a writer.
  • 1-2 follow-up emails to answer any clarifying questions about the report.
  • This service does not include in-line critiques or notes written on your actual manuscript – these are available in my Developmental Editing package below.

Best for writers who want hands-on guidance and deep story support.

This is my most in-depth level of support and is designed for writers who are ready to seriously strengthen their story. I’ll look at the big picture of your story while also engaging directly with the manuscript, so you can see how story issues show up on the page and how they can be addressed.

We’ll focus on the core elements that shape a strong story, including structure, characterization, pacing, genre expectations, and overall clarity. The goal isn’t to rewrite your book, but to give you clear, actionable insight that helps you move forward with confidence and intention.

Whether you’re new to the craft, or you’re a seasoned writer, a developmental edit can drastically improve your story.

Let me help give your novel the chance it deserves.

What You’ll Get

  • An in-depth editorial report providing a detailed breakdown of what’s working, what isn’t, and where your revision efforts will have the most impact, with clear guidance on how to strengthen your story.
  • In-manuscript feedback and commentary, providing thoughtful comments throughout your manuscript. I’ll highlight patterns, raise questions, and respond to the story as it unfolds, helping you understand how your writing is landing in real time.
  • Big-picture and scene-level insight feedback that connects overarching story issues to specific moments on the page, so revisions feel grounded and purposeful rather than abstract.
  • 1-2 follow-up emails. You’ll get a chance to ask clarifying questions about the report or in-manuscript feedback and make sure you’re clear on next steps.
